UPDATE

We’ll meet at Newberg Friends at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, January 13, returning to NFC on Monday, January 16, by 2:30 p.m. Find program information online and below. Make sure to fill out and bring a medical release. You can also find packing suggestions here. Cost for camp is $65. Cost for transportation is $10. Bring dinner for Friday (or money to get dinner on the way).

MIDWINTER 2012: We Are Free

January 13 – 16, 2012

What is Midwinter? It’s a camp for Northwest Yearly Meeting youth and their friends in the middle of winter…and… it’s awesome! It’s a chance for students to gather and learn about things close to God’s heart: Freedom to Love, Freedom from Sin, Freedom to Serve.

We are called to be free! Galatians 5:13 — “You my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge in the sinful nature, rather, serve one another in love.”

YCEW 2012

Applications are due by December 1.

When: June 27th-July 29th

Where: Haiti

Who: High school sophomores, juniors or seniors for the 2011-2012 school year

What: This year we will be working with an organization called Haiti Christian Development Fund (HCDF). This group is working on various projects including the building and development of a boarding school for secondary students.

Our YCEW team will be working alongside the Haitian people developing relationships and community as they work to complete this important project. Education is typically only available in the city and the urban conditions are dismal (even before the earthquake). HCDF is working to promote better education opportunities in rural Haiti.

Click here for more information on this great ministry: Haiti Christian Development Fund

The team will also be connecting with youth from local churches to learn from one another. It is our hope to host conversations and opportunities for the youth of Haiti to teach our youth what God is doing in Haiti and for the YCEW team to talk about what God is doing in their country and communities

Haiti is a small, tropical, mountainous country located in the Caribbean Sea where it shares an island with the Dominican Republic. Haiti is known for its unique history and culture. As one of the most densely populated countries in the world, most Haitians are of African Decent, but also have strong French roots. Due to previous political corruption and ongoing violence, Haiti is found to be the poorest country in the Americas while still struggling to recover from last year’s 7.0 earthquake that tore Haiti to ruins.

Some things to remember as you are praying about applying are that both YCEW team members and leaders must attend a Parent Meeting on January 8, 2012, May Retreat (May 4-6, 2012), and the YCEW trip (June 24-July 27, 2011) which includes orientation before and debriefing & Yearly Meeting sessions after. These dates are absolutely mandatory for acceptance. Blessings as you begin your journey.
