NFC is hosting a screening of a new film that uses Isaiah 58 as its cue; a film that challenges Christians to respond to extreme poverty in our world.

This Friday night at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary, Michelle Akins has organized a gathering to watch “58:” You can find more information about the movie and the movement here. You can also contact Michelle for more information. Consider making time in the busyness of life for this opportunity!

The film might not be appropriate for young children. Child care will not be provided.

Ladies Tea
October 23, 2011, 6:13 PM

A formal Ladies Tea is coming up on Saturday, October 29, and we need eight volunteer servers. Because it’s a women’s event, Barb Mitchell is hoping to have about eight, female, middle- or high-school students; but male students are welcome to volunteer. Although the tea is at 11, servers would need to arrive by 10:40 a.m. and should plan to stay until 1 p.m. Servers should also wear a white shirt or top and dark pants or skirt.

Can you help?

Halloween Service Project
October 22, 2011, 5:03 PM

Chehalem Park and Rec will offer a preschool activity area during the downtown trick or treat event on Halloween. We need some youth-group aged kids to help run the games: ring toss, cookie walk, throw the ball into the pumpkin. We could also use help with setting up and taking down the canopies.

Here are more details about that evening, provided by Lynne Patrick:

Chehalem Park and Recreation District is working with 2 businesses — Dormers Screen Printing and Hopp’s Insurance. Our little game area will be in the parking lot between these 2 businesses. We will have the area blocked off with straw bales and covered with canopies in case of rainy weather. The evening begins at 5 and runs until 7 p.m. Our area will have several games such as a bean bag toss, fishing, ring toss, cookie walk and more. At each of these games, we will need 2 people to help lead the children through the game and reset the game for the next participant. We are looking for middle to high school age kids to help. The volunteers could dress in costumes as long as their costumes are not too scary for the little guys! We are still in the early planning stages of this so I don’t know exactly how many youth we need, but I would say around 10 or so. We may need help setting up and taking things down as well.

Can you help?

zooraft White Salmon river mapOur weekend adventure is fast approaching, so here are some details about the trip. Call Eric or Leslie if you have any questions that aren’t answered here:

We are meeting at Newberg Friends Church (307 S College St) at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 26. We plan to return to Newberg Friends by 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 28. Please bring a sack lunch on Friday. We will be driving to and camping in Washington’s Gifford Pinchot National Forest (about a 2-hour drive). On Saturday, we’ll spend much of the day exploring caves in the area near Trout Lake. On Sunday, we’ll be rafting the White Salmon River. The cost is $75 per person. Here’s the packing list.

If you are 18 or older, please fill out and sign the Adult Waiver. If you are under 18, your parents must sign a completed Minor Waiver. These waivers are for the rafting trip.

If you are a student, we also need to have a medical release on file for you. If you’ve already turned in a release for the 2011/12 school year, please disregard. If you haven’t yet done so, have your parents complete and sign the release and bring it with you. If you’re not sure as to whether we already have a release on file for you, call me. I’ll check our records and let you know if we need this form from you.

We need to make sure there are enough tents for everyone, so please let Leslie or me know if you have a tent that we can use.
